Why it is important that the print media be acid and lignin free:

Lignin is a chemical substance found in wood that bonds (glues) cellulose.  Lignin breaks down over time, turning the paper or canvas brown and releasing acids.

Acids make paper or canvas deteriorate, disintegrate, and become brittle over time.

We use ONLY acid-free, lignin-free materials throughout.

THESE ARE THE INKS USED IN THE GICLÉE PRODUCTION PROCESS:

EPSON ULTRA-CHROME INK:  Produces archival prints with amazing color fidelity, gloss level, and scratch resistance, while providing consistently stable colors that significantly outperform lesser ink technologies.  This breakthrough ink technology also makes it the perfect choice for professional neutral and toned black and white prints with higher density levels.

  • High Density pigments allow for an extremely wide color gamut, insuring the reproduction of colors that were originally envisioned at the point of creation.
  • Professional print permanence ratings for truly sellable quality prints
  • Superior scratch resistance
  • Color is stable immediately after printing - no short term color shifting
  • Impressive mid-tones and highlights for a smoother tonal range
  • Excellent longevity and durability of up to 108 years under normal indoor lighting & environmental conditions

ABOUT THE CANVAS WE USE FOR YOUR CANVAS PRINTS:

SUNSET SELECT MATTE CANVAS:  The bright-white, matte-coated surface of this poly/cotton blend canvas provides the wide color gamut and color-consistency needed to fulfill a wide range of art-reproduction and photo printing requirements while facilitating stretching and other forms of finishing and display.  The relatively smooth Oxford 2 over 1 weave is ideal for photo and art reproduction.

Acid-free, pH-neutral coating and high white point for consistent, accurate colors.  Water-resistant poly/cotton blend for greater durability and ease in stretching.

ABOUT THE PAPER WE USE FOR YOUR TEXTURED PAPER PRINTS:

SUNSET TEXTURED FINE ART PAPER:  This natural-white art paper, with a textured, watercolor finish (surface), can add a more painterly look to art reproductions. It can add surface dimension and visual interest to paintings and images, consisting of bold, loose strokes.

This heavy weight (310g) and thick (19-mil) paper provides a luxurious feel of traditional artists' papers.  It is ideal for fine-art reproductions, especially of paintings with a loose, expressive style.

ABOUT THE GICLÉE PRINTER WE USE:

Epson Stylus Pro 9880:  Because of Epson's leading role as the defining brand for commercial-grade printers, we use this professional wide-format printer, which incorporates forward-thinking designs, with a newly enhanced 9-color ink technology, resulting in a final print of uncompromising quality.

It uses Epson UltraChrome Ink technology, the standard by which all other professional-level ink technologies are judged.  Now enhanced with Vivid Magenta pigments, this newest-generation ink technology uses 9 colors, including a three-level black technology, to significantly raise the quality levels for professional color and black-and-white prints.

By employing this particular printer, we can produce archival prints with amazing color fidelity, gloss level, and scratch resistance, while providing consistently stable colors across current & future print runs.  The high level of ink droplet accuracy, makes for a pixel free image.

THE NOTE CARD ENVELOPES THAT COME WITH YOUR CARDS:

NOTE CARD ENVELOPES:  White, 70LB, Vellum Finish (parchment like).

THIS IS THE NOTE CARD PRINTING PROCESS:

OCÉ VARIO LASER:  Laser printing is a popular type of computer printing that uses a non-impact (keys don't strike the paper), photocopier technology.  When a document is sent to the printer, a laser beam "draws" the document on a selenium-coated drum using electrical charges.  After the drum is charged, it is rolled in toner, a dry powder type of ink.  The toner adheres to the charged image on the drum.  The toner is transferred onto a piece of paper and fused to the paper with heat and pressure.

THIS IS THE NOTE CARD STOCK WE USE:

ACCENT OPAQUE DIGITAL:  This 80-pound, medium weight card stock that has been specifically engineered to work with our note card printer.  Some of the features that are of especial importance to you, the artist:

  • Acid-free for added archival quality that extends the life of the card

  • Smooth surface for proper ink adherence
  • High brightness with preferred blue/white shade providing excellent contrast
  • Opaque card stock eliminates show through.
  • Paper produced in a manner that has a reduced environmental impact (less chemical washes, water and energy)

ABOUT THE VENEER THAT WE USE ON YOUR CANVAS PRINTS:

BLACK DIAMOND ECLIPSE GLOSS:  This canvas giclée topcoat provides a superior, protective, soft gloss finish on your prints, while enriching the shadows & highlights.  Eclipse finishing topcoat is non-yellowing, dries clear, is self-leveling to eliminate bubbles, provides superior protection during print handling and exhibits excellent elasticity for gallery wrapping. Additionally, Eclipse has been formulated to provide industry leading UV light protection, & shields your images from scuffs & abrasions.  Since its original formulation in 2007, Black Diamond Eclipse has been clean at heart, unsullied by toxins and impurities, unlike some other finishing coats.  Black Diamond Eclipse ... A True Champion for YOUR Art!

Note that all paper prints have a 1/2" mat border allowance around the image, meaning that an 8 x 10 print (for example) would be on a 9 x 11 cut sheet ... If more border is required, perhaps to accommodate a caption (for example), we can work with you on that for a small additional charge per print.

Note also that all paper prints are packaged in clear seal bags with backing boards for support.

ABOUT THE PAPER WE USE FOR YOUR MATTE PAPER PRINTS:

SUNSET FIBRE MATTE:  The ultra-smooth, bright white matte surface and 14-mil thickness of Sunset Fibre Matte (285 gm weight)  makes this fibre-based paper excellent for creating your color art reproductions, as well as for reproducing your pencil, pen, & ink drawings.  The high-quality coating delivers an impressively large color & tonal gamut, ranging from the softest shadings to the most vibrant highlights.  It is especially adept at accentuating the intricate details in your originals.

Regardless of the medium of the original (oil painting, acrylic, water-color, etc.), this economical, archival, museum grade paper is always a sure bet as an art reproduction paper choice.
