The process begins when you SUBMIT YOUR ART TO US to be "SETUP" for print or note card production:

THE PROCESS OF SETTING UP ARTWORK:  The process begins when you send us your art.  Our computer artists must first photograph or scan your original art and turn it into a digital (electronic computer) file, which we can send to various printers to produce your original art note cards or fine art reproduction giclée prints.  The print or note card that comes from the printers is matched against your original & then tweaked as necessary to produce a match.  This process is called "setting up" your art -- or a "Set-Up."

Even if you submit a digital file to us, part of the setup process involves matching what we see on our computer screens with what the printers produce.  If you've ever attempted to do this yourself, you know that it is an involved process that goes beyond "just hitting print."  Color matching (tweaking) can be tedious and time intensive ... but very necessary in order to produce a reproduction that is faithful to your original.

A setup fee, then, covers the cost of the above activities.  Setup fees are applied to each image.  If you submit 5 images, for example, for a set of note cards, you will pay a setup fee for each of those images.

Since the process & equipment used to create a giclée print is completely separate & unrelated to the process of creating a note card, we charge a separate set up fee for creating a "print" -- and a separate set up fee for creating a "note card".  Put another way, if you want both a note card & a giclée print of "Roses in a Vase," you will pay two separate setup fees.

Note that only one setup fee is charged to setup a giclée print, regardless of whether you want a paper print, a canvas print, or both.  For note cards, set-up fees are the same regardless of the size of the note card that you intend to order.

Note that setup fees are charged only once, at the time that the art is originally submitted.  Afterwards, you pay only for the prints or note cards ordered.

PROOFING NOTE:  You can elect to have a proof print or proof note card produced, that you can sign off on, prior to placing an order  In the case of a print, the proof is created on the media that you intend to have the final print order done on (matte paper / textured paper / canvas).  The print proof will be in the proportional range of 8 x 10.  Otherwise, the proofing is done "in house," whereby our staff produces & signs off on the proof.

Know that proof prints and proof note cards can also serve as portfolio items, which can be placed into an 8.5 x 11
portfolio binder.  Aside from being an attractive, professional record of what we have on file for you, these portfolios are also wonderful marketing tools for showing potential buyers, clients (and those looking to commission work) what art you have available as prints, and what type of art you are capable of producing.  Many of our long-time clients (who are convinced about our ability to produce reproductions faithful to their originals) still opt to obtain proofs for the purpose of keeping their portfolio binder current.  We do not require to have the proofs signed & returned to us; they are yours to keep.  Proofs can be approved via voice or digital communication.

To create a proof, the technician must compare the colors in your "original," with the printouts--making adjustments to correct the colors until an approximate "match" (reasonable simulation) is achieved.  This is called "tweaking."  This "match" is called a "proof."  This process occurs, whether you opt to receive a proof or not.

If you choose not to receive a proof, any text involved in your printing job can be E-Mailed to you for approval.  Because each monitor & mobile device screen shows color differently, we do not E-Mail image proofs for color approval.

If you chose to have a proof created for your approval, proofing fees are applied to each image.  If you submit 5 images, for example, for a set of note cards, you will pay a proofing fee for each of those images.
